Check out that countdown.
The closer it gets, the farther away it seems. When we had 2 weeks left it seemed like nothing. Now 5 days seems like forever.
This is like every Christmas Eve and night-before-my-birthday I've ever experienced rolled into one.
I know I haven't written in quite awhile. I may as well tell you now, entries will be pretty spotty for the next 2-3 months while we're transferring. Webring owners, please don't boot me out of rings! This is certainly temporary. But we move in 3 weeks, I'm getting ready for that, the transfer itself takes 5 weeks and I won't have regular access to a computer until we buy a house, close, and move in.
I really will be back, though!
I finished the pattern tester socks and sent them off. Devon's and Mel's socks are both on hold until I have more time. As a coming-home present, I'm whipping up a quick poncho for me and matching DNA scarf (from Interweave Knits) for Spence. I just need to do the edging on the poncho and then the scarf for Spence shouldn't take long. Connor's blanket is 60% done, and I'm still working on that as well.
So, this might very well be my last entry for awhile. But I'll be back ASAP, and when I am I'll post lots of pictures of things recently knit, I promise!!!
And if I did the coat in Jo Sharp DK Tweed from the Mansfield Craft Den, it would lessen the price by almost half! By my calculations I'd only need 31 balls (the Jo Sharp knits up at an extra half stitch over 4" and has more yardage per skein), and I'd be getting a 100% wool coat, rather than 40% acrylic. And they also have a charcoal tweed. Of course, they have a limited stock (I don't think there's going to be anymore DK Tweed) so maybe I'll go ahead and get it after we get to NY. It's still a lot to spend (even though $100 isn't bad for a full-length, pure wool winter coat).
Hmmmmmm.
I found a good site with color names for the Heilo, rather than just scanned shade cards. I think I'd do this:
MC: #5781 Navy Heather (6 balls)
A: #5744 Norwegian Blue (2 balls)
C: #5813 Mist Blue (2 balls)
B: #5762 Steel Blue (1 ball)
D: #0083 Charcoal Heather (1 ball)
Ooooooh, so pretty!
What I Want:
This book so I can make this pattern (ad on page 27), and I would do it in Runway Black, Verdigris, Rich Blue, Soft Blue, and perhaps Tyrian, Emotion, or Chianti Classico (from here). I'd have to see the pattern and shade card to know for sure.
The Leaf Coat on page 58. What a spectacular coat! And I want 33 balls of Fonty Soft Tweed in #1107 (Charcoal) and Addi turbos in size 10.5 to make it. (I'm building up my collection of Addi turbos as I need them. They are a dream to knit with).
The Short-row Striped Pullover on page 74. I'd do the sleeves in a deep blue, though, and the stripes in dark grey, some blues, and a winter white (noticing a trend in the colors i like?). Once again, I'd have to see a shade card to decide. Oh, and sizes 6 and 7 in Addi Turbos :)
The Love Stamp socks on page 94. I wouldn't even change the colors, for once.
The Chinchilla Capelet and Scarf on page 102. I can't decide what shade, though. Wouldn't it be sassy in Cabernet or Cool Red over a little black dress? Oyster would be *very* swanky, Black would go with everything. Cielo and Midnight would also be pretty. I think I'm leaning toward Oyster (10 balls). I'd wear that to the opera! And my husband IS planning on wining and dining me in NYC... I definitely wouldn't do it in the Passero they chose. I don't do brown. And Addi Turbos in size 9.
The Child's Oxford Shirt on page 104...in MY size, thank you very much. I think this pattern would look downright sexy in the right yarn, maybe something with silk, or, yes! Isis from Colinette. It's a chunky viscose chenille that is so incredibly soft and yummy. Since the pattern is in a DK weight, I bet if I knit the size for a 6 year old, only in Isis on size 11 needles, it would fit me. Hmmmmm....... I think after I get to NY I'll have to order some palette packs and see what turns up.
This kit, from the ad on page 111, in Ivory, with the blue shawl pin. Isn't that just gorgeous? I need to look through their webpage at their other patterns...
Ok, that's all the damage I wanted to do on my first read-through. No wonder they only do four issues a year.
Hey, Mom! Did you notice the ad for the Genuine Purl on page 130?? And have you considered that if you had just handed me a skein of Colinette when first teaching me to knit, I would have been hooked forever? ;)
It feels wonderful to turn the calendar to the page that includes my husband's return :) I've spent the last 5.5 months convinced that this one would never come.
I finished my sock swap socks! I'll take pictures before sending them off and once my buddy has them, I'll post them along with yarn and pattern info.
